Been There, Done That, Got The Photo 2242hrs

Posted by admin on Jun 2, 2009 in Bus / Coach

I can now “officially” say (and PROVE!)  I’ve been to the Washington Monument:

Of course as you can see, it was from the drivers’ seat of “the office” after I had dropped the kids off!  But I’ve been close enough to it to photograph now!

Yeah… I know I’m a dumb-ass… if I had turned the OTHER way… I could have EVEN MORE EASILY PHOTOGRAPHED THE CAPITOL BUILDING WHICH WAS ONLY TWO BLOCKS AWAY…<sigh>

Anyways… another day of driving around DC… picking up here, dropping off there… lots of traffic and crowded streets.

I DID manage to get a nice “leisurely” break in at Union Station in downtown DC…

I’m starting to know my way around DC…some!  I’d love to come down here sometime and play Mr. Wong for a couple of days on my own to really enjoy the sites.

Tomorrow is another hectic day… I have to give up the luxury accomodations as we move North to New Jersey in preparation for Thursday’s visit in New York City… and I do mean DOWN-FUCKING-TOWN!  Right at morning rush hour no less…<sigh>

Oh well…gotta learn sometime right?

Maryland in a day

Posted by admin on Jun 1, 2009 in Where Am I?

Did the whirlwind tour of Maryland today… first it was to Fort McHenry in Baltimore…then up to Annapolis to visit the Naval Academy… then back down to Baltimore until 1900hrs tonight… lots of driving… lots of sitting around waiting to drive!  LOL  All part and parcel with the job!  Did get a few photos today of Baltimore harbor…

(more pics after the jump)

Of course I found the perfect car for my sweetie…where else but at the Naval Academy!

And I found her the perfect dog to go with her car!

I could just SOOOO see her walking that thing!  ROFLMAO

Tomorrow it’s back to DC for the day… National Zoo, National Archives, Old Post Office Pavilion, American History Museum, Air & Space Museum, Union Station and finally to the Washington Nationals baseball game vs. San Francisco Giants… and before you ask… no I can’t go to any of it!  🙁  Washington is a wicked tourist friendly, bus / driver UN-friendly city… no parking anywhere NEAR those places… oh well.

Mr. Wong Goes To Washington – 1521hrs

Posted by admin on May 31, 2009 in Bus / Coach

Started this week’s run yesterday late… the other driver and I were scheduled to meet the pre-loaded buses at the Kennebec Service Center at 2130 hours.  We got there at 2050hrs and they were already there!  Been there about ten minutes it turns out… apparently the kids got the bus loaded in like 3 minutes flat and off they went, but it really screwed me up as it didn’t give me a chance to check all the controls and switches of R6 even though I’d drove it before.  So we blasted outta there right away and drove stright through the night to Washington DC.  We stopped about every two hours which was nice, but it was still a long night!

Arrived in DC this morning right on schedule… stopping for breakfast about an hour out at a Mc Donalds (drivers eat free!), then took them into the “malls” of DC.  So far today I’ve seen the Washington Monument, The Jefferson Monument, The Licoln Monument, the WWII Monument, the Vietnam Monument, and the White House (from a slight distance).  How many pictures did Mr. Wong take?  Not a frickin’ one!  Was too busy being white-knuckled on the wheel, not to mention having 52 people staring at the back of my head!

Oh well… at least *I* got to see them right?  LOL

The other driver and I headed to the hotel about 0830 to check-in.  Of course the hotel had no clue we were coming that early, so they had to zig and zag to find us two rooms so we could get some sleep!  To their credit they did… and man what a room!

(more images after the jump)

So I crashed for a few hours to take the edge off… we have to pick the kids (all Jr. High Schoolers) at 1930hours tonight to bring them back here, then we’re off for the night, so I didn’t want to sleep too much today.

Tomorrow we have a full schedule… drive them here… drop them off for an hour… then drive them to the next place so I want to get a good night’s sleep tonight.

That’s about all for now… more later from the Nation’s capitol!
