Houston, we’ve landed

Got into Springfield a little past 8 this morning.  Hung around for the shuttle bus, jumped on with five other newbies that came in on the same bus I did.  It was only once we got to the hotel and they had no clue what the “rate” was to charge for Prime that we started to question if this was “THE” the shuttle we wanted.  Turns out..of course not.  Two hours later waiting for the REAL shuttle, we landed at the “Campus Inn”, the hotel owned by Prime and ran strictly for Prime drivers.  OMFG!!!  This is soooo cool!  (Does that sound familiar?)  Here’s what my view consists of:

As you can tell already, I wasn’t able to post during the trip.  The space was just too small on the bus to try to whip out a laptop.  Pretty much every bus was full.  I’ll spare you the details, but needless to say, it was long, boring, cramped, shitty… a Greyhound bus!  What more is there to say?

One “high” spot if you will was kind of neat, rolling into NYC at midnight or so, having a three hour lay-over was something I was NOT looking forward to!  Of course one of the first things I did was to head outside for a smoke and holy shit man!  New York city (duh, the city that never sleeps!?) was frickin’ packed and busy and full of life and in your face!

Finally, one other highlight of the trip… who would have ever thought that the Pittsburg, PA bus terminal would be constructed of lots and lots and lots and lots (did mention lots?) of iron!  Every bridge, building, monument and pretty much anything else you can think of was made from steel in one way or the other!

The terminal itself looked to be about a million years old and was kept up fairly well:

So, now that I’ve arrived, I’m sitting in my room (the room-mate’s gone at the moment) and I just finished up all the typical employment paperwork that needs to be done (yeah…all the SAME paperwork that I already filled out online when I applied…oh well).

Speaking of room-mate.  John’s his name…black guy from Boston, he’s on his second weekand is about to go out for his 100 hours of training (where the training has to sit next to you all the time because you only have a permit).  His trainer’s from the mid-south, so they’ve been delaying getting out of here all weekend to see if the trainer would need to go home and evacuate his family.

Anyways, John seems like a decent guy, newbie like myself and provided a wealth of information that he said they only gloss over real quick.

That’s it for now…I’m gonna go hit the CDL manual and start boning up… we’ve been told we will test for our permit on Wednesday!
