“On The Road Again”… sort of – 0710hrs

Posted by admin on Sep 10, 2008 in Where Am I?

Okay… let’s start off with the best news from yesterday!  I got an instructor!!  Whooo Hoooo!!

His name is Charles and he seems like a pretty decent guy.  His student pass his CDL testing yesterday and he’s going into the tanker division so Charles can’t take him for the Team Training (TNT) portion which he normally likes to do and wants to do with me.

So lets see, that was around 1400hrs yesterday.  We got his old student off the truck, and got all my shit ON the truck (reminder… large bags are a VERY bad idea as there’s next to NO storage space on a rig when you’re sharing bunk space!

So, after all that, we got a load assigned, 38k pound of Kraft cheese going to London, KY.  From there we have what’s called a “Pre-plan” taking that empty trailer to Cincinnati, MN to turn it in to the manufacturer.  We’ll get paid for both the loaded and in this case the unloaded miles going all the way to MN.

So we went out to eat at a place called The Cracker Barrel… lots of country style food etc.  Had a pretty good ham steak and macaroni and cheese, then we needed to come back to the yard and get the trailer and get over to Kraft to get loaded.  By the time we got out of the yard and over to the shipper it was 45 minutes past load time, which is usually a bad thing, but they took us right in:

Yes…that IS a friggin CAVE we’re about to drive into!!  The entire refigerated complex is underground!  Flipped me out… it was SOOO cool!  (I’ve got other / better pics to post, but I left the camera in the truck, so will post them when I get a chance).

So we finally bumped-dock at just past 2000hrs and pulled off the trailer to wait.  BTW…funny-ass note here… Charles love railroading and model railroading and decided to play his favorite game.. Railroad Tycoon 3.  Needless to say, I think we’re gonna get along JUST FINE!  ROFL

2200hrs we got loaded and headed back to the yard to scale out and slide our trailer tandems to balance the load, then bedded down for the night in the truck here at the yard.

So… my first load (going 599 mi BTW), AND my first night in the truck on the top bunk!  Other than the fact I kept kicking my ginormous bag of clothes and shit…I actually slept pretty well!

More later…I’m “On the road again…”
